The Beths

Toronto, ONThe Beths play a fun brand of power pop. It's catchy, and lyrically profound when it needs to be. They are touring their new album, Straight Line Was A Lie, and I was initially set to see them in Vancouver. Then my move to Toronto became a thing, but luckily they also were playing Toronto in November. Two nights at the Danforth Music Hall.
Phoebe Rings opened the show. Another band from New Zealand. Sounded a lot like Broadcast to me.
The Beths sounded great. Lowkey setup that gelled well with their kinda homey vibe, with some nice lighting effects. Nice banter with the crowd. Fascinating quips about the local squirrels of Toronto. Never knew that New Zealand does not have squirrels. Highlight of the set list for me was the title track off of Straight Line Was A Lie. And the acoustic moments with lead vocalist Elizabeth Stokes, like "Mother, Pray For Me" were quite endearing.
