Last Dinosaurs

Vancouver, BCWhen it rains, it pours... as far as concerts are concerned! This show with Last Dinosaurs at The Pearl here in Vancouver was my third in less than a week, after having not attended any for a couple months. Last Dinosaurs are touring North America off of their most recent record, KYORYU. Yumeno Garden, from 2018, is definitely my favourite album of theirs. It's a nice and easy listen; it's always reminded me of early 2010s The Strokes with its blend of synthpop, indie pop, and power pop.
There were two openers for this show, Jasper Bones and Tipling Rock. I only caught the tail end of the Tipling Rock set, but it seemed like a warm vibe! The problem with having two openers for a show like this is that it cut into the set length for Last Dinosaurs -- they started up right around 9:45pm and played until shortly before the 11:00pm curfew, which is a bit of a short set when it comes to rock headliners.
Anyways, I'm glad that the Last Dinosaurs' set was heavy on the cuts from Yumeno Garden, as they hit most of the standouts from the album -- "Italo Disco", "Bass God", and "Eleven", among others! There was some fun banter between the band and the crowd, with the band noting how "respectful" this Vancouver crowd was, similar to crowds in Japan. Not a shocker to me! Vancouver crowds are pretty tame in my experience. They really got the crowd chattering when they started poking fun at Toronto. Oh well, for whatever it's worth, I think the world of Toronto!
