Um, well, this was one that you just have to turn around and forget. The Sens were returning home for their first game back on home turf following their nine game road trip over the World Juniors. And I wanted to fit in at least one home game before I return to Vancouver post-holidays.
They came out and laid a goose egg in this one. The Sabres went up 4-0 by halfway through the second period, with the Sens giving up tons of odd man rushes leading to Sabres goals. It looked like they relapsed to their old D.J. Smith era habits in this one. Luckily, the Sabres didn't pile on any more, but it still feels gross to get shut out like this, in front of all the fans who just wanted to welcome the team back. Of note: I'm not sure why, but the Sens were wearing their away jerseys in this one, despite being at home. Felt like bad mojo to me.
Hopefully this won't be my last Sens game of the season. I should have at least a couple more opportunities to see them the next time I visit Ottawa, in April.
