I first found out about Pond during my Tame Impala obsession back in 2018/2019, as Kevin Parker was involved with the band, producing their 2017 album The Weather. Some other members of Pond have also been part of the crew Kevin Parker brings on tour for Tame Impala, including Jay Watson (who also releases solo material under the stage name "GUM") and former Pond member Cam Avery. In short, Tame Impala and Pond are intertwined more than people may realize, beyond more than just their shared Australian origins.
And Pond have a new album out, Stung!, and are touring it across North America alongside Fazerdaze. That's a pretty good combo! This show was yet again at the Commodore in Vancouver. Frontman Nick Allbrook was firing on all cylinders the whole time, throwing himself into the crowd and surfing on more than one occasion. They mentioned that their drummer had to go back to Australia for a family emergency, so they had their manager on the sticks, but they really did make the most of it. Loved hearing "I'm Stung" (my favourite cut from the new album) and "Daisy". Hilarious that they made an exception to include "Medicine Hat" on the setlist.
