Here we are; we've made it to what will be my final live show of 2024. It's been a wild year, to say the least. This one with Jean Dawson at the Rickshaw in Vancouver being my 25th live show of the year, more than any other year (so far). While Jean Dawson has always played around with different genres, his new record Glimmer of God taps into some new territory. It's still very hard to define or confine Jean Dawson to one genre or style, and that's the beauty of his work.
He had some great support for this one, with Quadeca opening. He's also fresh off a new album, SCRAPYARD. Wouldn't surprise me if some were in attendance solely for him. Jean Dawson's set was heavy on the new record, highlights being Houston and Darlin'. And some tried and true tracks from Pixel Bath, including "Bruiseboy" (personal favourite) and "Power Freaks"/"Devilish" near the end of the set. He closed it with "MENTHOL*", not before sharing his admiration for BC native Mac DeMarco.
