I don't have much to add to the discourse on this one, not having read the novel, and only having seen one other obscure adaptation just last week. But just being aware of the miscast leads was enough to sap the life out of it for me. It doesn't have a thesis, toiling around in edginess for no apparent reason. On a big screen, it does look nice at times, but even then, I think it left a lot on the table, hemming itself in close quarters and rarely letting the sweeping landscapes do the heavy lifting. Why shoot on VistaVision if you're gonna be inside all the time? Charli xcx innocent.
