I know I've watched this before, before my Letterboxd days, when I first watched the original series and The Return. Which was at least six years ago, probably more like eight. Crazy how time flies. But returning to it here without having revisited the series actually blew this open for me. Totally unlocked. Coming out of the show, I was probably expecting more Dale Cooper and cherry pies and damn fine cups of coffee. But that's not at all the idea here. It strips away the romanticism of the series, offering a harrowing peak behind the curtains of an abusive world and the tragically ill-fated girl caught in it. After mostly being shrouded in mystery throughout the series, it's devastating to see this transformation. Sheryl Lee's performance is astounding.
