I do wish I revisited Blue and White before this screening, because the trilogy really is larger than life when looked at as a whole. But no doubt, each one can stand on its own. Red is explicitly about fraternity, where ultimately life seems to find a way to interconnect those that lead separate lives in the same places. And it invites connection, the way it operates in condensed surroundings, whether it be a studio, a theatre, or someone's house. In a way, the opposite of Short Cuts, where a large, sprawling city really exacerbates the disconnect. And it's cliché to say, and feels a lot more eloquent in the film itself, but I think there's also an element here of learning to not always judge (literally) a book by its cover, because this connection can come from where you least expect it. And just finally, this film is gorgeous. There's so many beautiful shots here.
