The Young and the Damned

Toronto, ONFirst of Buñuel's Mexican films I've seen, save for his adaptation of Wuthering Heights. But man, is this ever different from his French films. Tonally, it's a lot darker, not trying to sympathize all that much, painting an ugly picture for what it is. Especially Pedro’s storyline — poor kid never had a chance. There’s some genuinely harrowing shots here. The slow-motion dream sequence and egg shot are quintessential Buñuel.
Watched at the TIFF Lightbox. 2019 restoration. Moving along with the Buñuel retrospective.
