I flew too close to the sun signing up for this one. The kind of sensory overload that really only makes me want to rip my ears out. A lot of pure musicals do grate me in this way, especially ones like this that don't come across as poetic, and are more of an exercise in excess. The sets are beautifully elaborate though. Not being a huge fan of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, or the source material, the only horse I have in this race is Sidney Lumet. And his involvement here baffles me.

Watched at the TIFF Lightbox. New 4K restoration from Criterion. It did look great.
