The most comedic I've seen Buñuel get. At least so far. He flips the notion of eating the rich into a feature length extended bit, and it pays off quite well. I can't think of many films that leverage surrealism for comedy, maybe Jacques Tati with a film like Playtime, but it's still a different brand of surrealism here that's more situational than physical. Either way, both are great. Fernando Rey is great at playing the pompous rich guy archetype that Buñuel evidently loves to poke fun at.
Watched at the TIFF Lightbox. Couldn't make it for the most recent screening in the Buñuel retro, Él, but back at it for this one.
