Blown away by this one. Didn't have high expectations going into it, figuring it would just be a footnote in Davies' late career output, but it's clear he hadn't lost his touch. It's familiar territory for Davies, but the way he navigates patriarchal abuse here through generations, and through the lens of British history, makes it particularly heavy, and a great late addition to his filmography. Beautiful 65mm landscape photography of the Scottish countryside. And on a personal note, knowing some of the men in my own family, it gave me a very weird feeling that this was a peek at how life was for my ancestors in Britain.

Watched at the TIFF Lightbox. Terence Davies retrospective. Wasn't planning on catching anything more in the retro, but I liked this enough that I may reconsider.
