It's a more nuanced, ambitious offering from Schrader compared to his other more recent portraits of troubled men. But I think it's just a touch too abstract for me to take much home from it. Gere and Elordi deliver formidable performances in a vacuum, but lack consistency when viewed as a whole. I will always have time for anything that unapologetically reps Canada (see BlackBerry).
