Mission: Impossible

Ottawa, ONOne unlikely strength of this series is it having been passed around to directors with very distinct styles before settling in with McQuarrie. Each one offers something different. De Palma's paranoid thriller approach here is exactly what you would expect from him, and works great as a confident start to the series. It's beautifully insane that the series was handed over to Woo for the second one, where Woo turns Tom Cruise into a rockstar overnight. I pretty much watch all the movies in this series with no gripes, and the first one here is no exception, so I'll throw an extra star at it this time around.
Watched at the old faithful Landmark Kanata. 30th anniversary screening.
