Movies about movies... spectacular, give me fourteen of them right now. I'm not well-versed in anime, and Paprika was my only context with Satoshi Kon going into this. Was surprised at how endearing this was, given how much of a mindfuck Paprika is (in a good way). TIFF did a retro on Mikio Naruse a couple months ago, in which we got to see the career of Hideko Takamine unfold over the course of their numerous collaborations. So she immediately came to mind watching this. Fantastic soundtrack here too. Soared at all the right moments. How can you not be romantic about movies?
