Indifferent on this one. It kinda just meandered, but did manage to come into focus near the end. I don't really have a problem with just sitting back and absorbing this kind of slice of life movie, which I presume is what Naruse typically deals in. But I do like it when the takeaways feel more emphatic, and I didn't feel that way here, unlike with When a Woman Ascends the Stairs. I guess it's kinda about aging with a business, dodging the circling vultures, but I imagine there's subtleties and context to it that I didn't pick up on.
Watched on 35mm at the TIFF Lightbox. My second watch from their Naruse retrospective. Got a few more lined up, hoping they hit more like When a Woman Ascends the Stairs.
