The darkest Naruse I've seen in this series. It's jarring just how upfront it is in its portrayal of domestic violence. And I felt like it left the bigger issue unresolved, as if Naruse is suggesting that the ugly nature of an aggressor is just that — their nature — and can't be coaxed out.
